Haiti Mattress Fundraiser

Almost there! We've raised $1900 so far!!

Hi, I'm Chrissy. This November my husband Rob and I had the opportunity to serve in Haiti through a group called Juniper Community Missions. This was such an amazing, life-changing experience for us. I hope everyone gets the opportunity to serve in such a way.

The people of Haiti are incredibly joyful and grateful for all they have though they do not have much.

During one of our outings we had the opportunity to visit an orphanage called New Horizons. This is where our hearts were truly broken.

The orphanage consists mainly of small buildings including a school house and bunkhouses where the kids slept. In the bunkhouses were metal framed bunks where the children slept two to a bed. Outside were mattresses airing out in the sun from bed-wetters. They were rotted all the way through the middle. These children have lived through traumatic experiences no doubt and now they sleep on either side of a stinking hole in their mattress.

It was after witnessing this scene that we realized we have our own personal mission; we must replace these mattresses. Right then we committed to providing enough funds to Juniper Missions this December to enable them to replace 10 of those mattresses. An added bonus would be to have waterproof covers donated as well to help extend the life of the mattresses we intend to donate.

How can you help?

The next team leaving for Haiti is in January of 2019. The mattresses will be bought in Haiti and delivered to the orphanage by this team as a gift from their local church. The cost of each mattress is $200 U.S. dollars so the total for all 10 mattresses would be $2,000.

This is such a small amount of money to us but can make a huge impact on these children. Any donation amount is helpful so don’t feel like you have to do a lot. When making a donation simply add a note of “mattresses” so the money will go directly towards this cause. A tax deductible receipt is available from Juniper for the donation.
